orbis floris (world flower II)...

I was rushing around sooooo much this morning - trying desperately to get a booky piece finished (just enough) to manage a photo or two to add with the entry form to the SCU aquisitive book art award


I'm sure I noticed steam emerging from the paste brush.... such was my rush...

it's not COMPLETELY finished (yet) - but here's what I managed to get into a piccie to send off to SCU.....

it's another circular coptic bound 'orbis floris' (world flower II) - made from more of those collected atlases..... presented in a hinged box - not finished yet (shhhhhh don't tell anyone)  at least I managed to get the interior done! (phew!) and I could slip the whirly book inside for a photo opportunity

Fingers crossed that Australia Post breaks all sorts of land speed records and manages to deliver my express post to Lismore by Monday.......

yeah I'm not holding out a whole lot of hope either........ (one of these days I'm going to have things done well ahead of deadlines!)

My piece 'orbis floris - (world flower)' is a part of this small exhibition - if you are in Melbourne you might like to drop into Artisan Books and check the show out (apparently there are about 31 works from around Australia and abroad). In the past Artisan Books has created an online gallery featuring their annual book arts exhibition - you can check out their 'exhibition' section to see past themed shows (and maybe this one will pop up there in the not too distant future)

Over the past 24hrs I have been making and binding like a little demon.... trying to complete a piece for 'Atlas' - the annual artists books exhibition at Artisan Books in Melbourne. The deadline for images and details is close of today or tomorrow.... and I had forgotten all about the event until ummmmm yesterday! so needless to say I had to get busy and work FAST!


Phew - I got it finished and pics sent away (and it's already confirmed as one of the selected pieces..... double phew!)

My 20 word art statement (yes - just twenty words..... gulp) to go with this piece reads:


"Created from a reclaimed atlas and inspired by permaculture, 'Orbis-floris' is an exploration in material, form and technique."


(and by now most regular readers would know that the 'exploration' pun was intended... hee hee hee)

And talking of regular viewers - you folk will no doubt see that this piece owes its construction to all those circular coptic bound forms that I have been playing with.... even if I haven't come up with a pain-free (or profanity-free) method of making, I think I've managed to iron out some of the pesky problems for a more 'finished' piece here..... so I'm feeling rather happy with myself this afternoon......

time to go play with the kidlins who have just returned from a hard day at school (the first of the new term)
