book week

August 17 - 23 is National Book Week

and this year I decided I'm going to celebrate by lugging my Very Long Book

into Candelo Books Bega

on Monday August 19

for a spot of public binding and blabbing about BOOOOOOOOOKS

I'll no doubt be chatting about things from my MFA research project

like Coptic binding

or encyclopaedias

or 'the death of the book'

or book arts

or biblioclasm

or whatever else tickles the fancy of passing people....

if you are in the neighbourhood - please drop in and say hiya!

(I'll let you pat the book if you smile nicely...)

  2. So how long (time) have you been working on the loooooong book now? I remember it in Melbourne at the conference, and it seemed pretty long (length) then. What happens when the loooooong book gets too big for that case? It seems like such a perfect home for it.

    1. this little square case IS a great home for it.... and the long book has almost outgrown it --- but I DO have another lovely old case that it can move into in the next bit..... (the loooooooong book is around the 10m mark now....

    2. All I can say is wow!

Actually, there's more.... is this a time-based project i.e. you'll stop when your mfa is done? Or is it more like your security blanket, and you'll never-ever stop??

  5. Sounds like a great plan for book week! Now you just need to put some little feet on your looooong book so you can pull it around on a leash like a millipede instead of you doing all the heavy lifting & carrying :)

  6. Rhonda it was so lovely to meet you today at Candelo Books. I love your blog (just having a quick squiz now before I head off to teach some James Joyce to unsuspecting youngsters...). That book herb spiral is AMAZING. I want to make one NOW. Can't wait to see more! x
